EDWARDS-WOODLEY AND OTHER UFC FIGHT NIGHT 171 FIGHTS CANCELED

Due to the transfer of the UFC Fight Night 171 tournament from London to the United States due to coronavirus, many card fighters will not be able to take part in the show. Leon Edwards (18-3) confirmed on Instagram that he will not be able to meet with Tyron Woodley (19-4-1), as not all members of his team can fly to the US now.

Colby Covington (15-2) has already volunteered to fight Woodley on a week’s notice:

“There are rumors that Edwards is out. The UFC and America need a hero. Who wants to see an American champion put on a MAGA cap (Make America Great Again – approx. ed. ) and beat the crap out of Woodley on ESPN next week to entertain you and just to please himself?” wrote Covington in Twitter account.

At the moment, only Paul Craig (12-4-1) – Ryan Spann (17-5), Jack shore (12-0) – Geraldo de Freitas (12-5) and Darren Stewart (11-4) – Marvin Vettori (14-4-1) remain in force. The UFC sent out letters to managers asking them to notify them of fighters with an American visa or citizenship who are ready to fight. Ariel Helvani wrote on Instagram that Woodley agreed to fight Covington.

EDWARDS COMMENTED ON THE CANCELLATION OF THE MATCH WITH WOODLEY

Top UFC Welterweight Leon Edwards (18-3) published an appeal in social networks.

“I went to bed with the hope that the tournament will still take place in London. But I found out this morning that it won’t happen. We with UFC tried to find an option how to save the fight, but, unfortunately, having such a small margin of time, there was nothing to do.

My team members and I are fathers, husbands, sons, and brothers, and not all of us are ready to leave our families now. I’m really sorry that we couldn’t find a way to please the fans, I’m really truly sorry.

I have dreamed of leading the UFC tournament in my homeland since I started playing this sport. And now my soul is torn with vexation. I’ve never trained so hard, this time I was preparing for the biggest moment of my career. But I know that the whole world is suffering now, and preventing the epidemic is much more important than sporting events and my interests. I can only hope that you will take precautions and take care of each other.

I am honored to receive thousands of messages of support from you. I sincerely appreciate all of you and feel all of your love now. I look forward to the moment when the situation stabilizes and Tyrone and I can give you the show you deserve.

Please take care of yourself. We will all survive this attack, ” Edwards wrote on Instagram.
